From Day to Night in London: The Perfect Outfit from H&M (under $50)

Hey everyone, it’s Kate! So, funny story—Kara and I just got back from an incredible trip to Greece, where the only wardrobe essentials were swimsuits and sundresses. But, when we landed in London, I realized I had nothing suitable for the city’s day-to-night vibe. Thankfully, a quick stop at H&M saved the day!

I picked up a mini pleated navy skirt that immediately caught my eye. It’s flirty yet classic, perfect for strolling through London’s charming streets. Paired with a powder blue bodysuit, it created a chic and effortless look. To top it off, I found a navy cardigan with gold buttons that added just the right amount of sophistication.

The best part?? The outfit is UNDER $50.

Here’s how this outfit seamlessly transitions from day to night:

Day Look:

Accessories: I kept it simple with a delicate gold necklace and a pair of stud earrings.
Shoes: White sneakers for comfortable exploring.
Cardigan: Worn casually over the shoulders.

Night Look:

Accessories: Swap the necklace for a statement piece like bold hoop earrings.
Shoes: Trade the sneakers for loafers or sleek heels.
Cardigan: Buttoned up and cinched with a slim belt to create a more polished silhouette.

This little detour to H&M turned out to be the perfect fix for a fashion emergency.

So, if you ever find yourself in a similar situation, remember, a quick stop at H&M can transform your wardrobe in a flash. Stay stylish, wherever your travels take you!

Love,
Kate 💙

Athens Cocktail Bar Crawl!

Hey travel fam, Kate & Kara here! We’ve just wrapped up an unforgettable bar crawl in Athens, and we’re bursting to share our highlights with you. If you’re planning a night out in this vibrant city, you’re in for a treat. Let’s dive in!

First Stop: The Bar in Front of the Bar
Our night kicked off at the charming and slightly elusive Bar in Front of the Bar. This cozy spot is a gin lover’s paradise, and we couldn’t resist trying their signature C.R.E.A.M. cocktail. It’s a delightful mix that perfectly balances gin with citrus and creamy notes. The ambiance here is intimate and welcoming, making it the perfect place to start our adventure. The bartenders are super friendly and love to chat about their creations, so don’t be shy!

Second Stop: Clumsies
Next up was Clumsies, a staple in Athens’ nightlife. As soon as we walked in, the fun atmosphere hit us. It’s always buzzing with energy, and the elevated bar food is to die for. We highly recommend the spicy chicken tenders – they have just the right amount of kick and pair perfectly with their expertly crafted cocktails. The bartenders here are mixology magicians, and every drink feels like a mini work of art. The best part?? Cocktails are only €10 – so much cheaper than even our cocktails at home for us in Orlando. Trust us, you’ll want to try more than one!

Third Stop: Alexander Bar, Hotel Grande Bretagne
Our third stop took us to the elegant Alexander Bar inside the Hotel Grande Bretagne. This place is steeped in history, with an 18th-century tapestry of Alexander the Great gracing the walls. The atmosphere is refined and sophisticated, perfect for a classy nightcap. The cocktail menu is exquisite, and the service is impeccable. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, relax, and savor every sip.

Fourth Stop: Brettos
We wrapped up our crawl at Brettos, one of the oldest bars in Athens. This colorful and quirky bar is famous for its wide selection of house-made spirits and liqueurs. The walls are lined with brightly colored bottles, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere. We recommend trying their ouzo or one of their many flavored liqueurs. It’s a fantastic place to end the night, with a lively ambiance and a rich history that makes every visit special.

Final Thoughts
Athens has a bar scene that caters to every taste, and our crawl was a perfect mix of the city’s best. From the intimate and creative to the historic and sophisticated, each stop offered something unique. We hope our journey inspires your own Athenian adventure. Cheers to unforgettable nights and delicious drinks!

Kate & Kara’s Ultimate Guide to Packing for a 6-Week European Summer: The Essential Capsule Wardrobe

Embarking on a 6-week European adventure is an exciting endeavor, but the packing process can often feel overwhelming. Striking the perfect balance between fashion and functionality is key to a hassle-free journey. Through trial and error, we’ve honed the art of packing efficiently without compromising on style. Here’s our comprehensive guide to building a capsule wardrobe that will keep you chic and comfortable throughout your European summer escapade.

The Philosophy Behind the Capsule Wardrobe

The essence of a capsule wardrobe lies in its simplicity and versatility. It’s about curating a collection of items that offer maximum mix-and-match potential, enabling you to craft numerous outfits from a handful of pieces. This approach is particularly beneficial for a European summer, where the days are warm, the evenings can be cool, and the style is effortlessly elegant. Choosing the right items is crucial for enjoying your trip in comfort and style.

Kate & Kara’s Capsule Wardrobe Essentials (*Hint- you can find most of the below on Amazon or other easy to shop stores.)

Tops:

Aim for 7-8 tops in neutral shades, with a couple of statement pieces for a pop of color or pattern. Focus on breathable materials like cotton and linen, ranging from casual tees to sophisticated blouses.

Bottoms:

Bring 3-4 bottoms – skirts, shorts and pants to be sure your bases are covered for all types of weather and occasions!

Dresses:

Pack at least 3 key dresses (if you like dresses) – a maxi for romantic evenings, a midi for day tours, and another versatile option. Opt for wrinkle-resistant and quick-drying fabrics to stay stylish on the go.

Sleepwear & Outerwear:

Pack 3-4 pajama sets as well as a couple of cozy jackets. We typically bring one sweatshirt/pullover and one weather-related jacket.

Footwear:

We tend to bring 2-3 pairs of shoes when traveling – athletic sneakers, sandals and everyday walking shoes. If you are tight on space, you can choose a walking shoe that doubles as both athletic and walking as well as sandals. When Kara traveled the world in 2014 for 7 weeks, she only brought hiking sandals and flip flops.

  • Walking Shoes: Opt for comfortable, durable shoes for navigating cobblestone streets.
    • Kizik walking shoes are SLIP-in…say it with us – no hands!!! These are a gamechanger for moms or dads or anyone who just needs to get up and go quickly.
    • Veja sneakers are so classy and comfortable that you can transition from touring during the day to dressing them up at night. They’re such a versatile sneaker.
  • Sandals: Choose versatile sandals that can transition from day to night.
    • Tory Burch gold slides are elegant and classy for a date night or dinner out.
    • Keen Elle backstrap sandals are great for long travel days where you are walking a lot but still want to look “put together”.
    • The Gizeh Bikenstock sandals are Kara’s “go to” beach sandal because they’re made from ultra lightweight and highly flexible EVA. These sandals are shock-absorbent, waterproof, and skin-friendly.
    • Ankis Slides are a dupe for the $760 Hermes ones at a very small fraction of the cost at $30.

Workout:

If you plan to workout on your trip, bring clothing items that can also be reused/worn with other outfits. The Beyond Yoga sets are perfect as you can dress them up with a flannel jacket or sweater.

Swim/Beach:

  • A chic swimsuit is essential for beach days or poolside relaxation. Pick a style that boosts your confidence. We love Cupshe brand suits like this one piece sexy black suit (that also comes in green, blue and yellow.)
  • This beach tote is made from mesh, so it’s so easy to roll up and fold and super light for air travel! We get compliments whenever we use it. Note, if you’re going to be walking a lot or carrying a lot, you may want to opt for a bag that has wider straps because the straps can get uncomfortable if you pack a lot of weight. If you aren’t traveling via plane or have the space, we love the Bogg Bag!
  • Sunscreen – Our absolute favorite brands are:

Toiletries:

Minimize your toiletries and consider multi-purpose products to save space.

Packing Tips from Kate & Kara:

  • Roll, Don’t Fold: This technique saves space and minimizes wrinkles.
  • Think in Outfits: Pack with complete outfits in mind to ensure every piece gets worn.
  • Embrace Layering: Be prepared for Europe’s unpredictable weather with easily layered items.
  • Accessorize: Small accessories like scarves, hats, and jewelry can dramatically change an outfit without occupying much space.

Remember, the cornerstone of a successful capsule wardrobe is selecting pieces that you love and feel fabulous in. With these essentials and tips, you’re all set to embark on your European journey with style, comfort, and ease. Happy packing and bon voyage!

Set Sail on the Virgin Scarlet Lady: A Unique Cruise Experience

If you’re seeking a cruise experience that’s far from ordinary, look no further than the Virgin Scarlet Lady. This innovative and stylish ship offers a unique twist on traditional cruising, with a focus on providing guests with a more exclusive and memorable journey. In this blog post, we’ll take you on a virtual tour of the Scarlet Lady and share some valuable tips for your voyage.

The Dock – greek tapas in a casual setting of daybed loungers and cabanas at the back of the boat

A Glimpse of the Scarlet Lady

The Scarlet Lady, part of the Virgin Voyages fleet, is a cruise ship that stands out in many ways. From the moment you step aboard, you’ll notice the absence of traditional cruise ship elements like buffets and assigned dining times. Instead, this ship offers a curated culinary experience that’s a food lover’s dream come true.

Why It’s Cool

  1. No Buffets!

One of the first things you’ll notice is the absence of the traditional cruise ship buffet. On the Scarlet Lady, dining is transformed into a culinary adventure. With a variety of restaurants and eateries to choose from, you’ll have the opportunity to savor a wide range of cuisines, from exquisite dining at Pink Agave (one of Kate’s favorite) to casual bites at places like The Dock (Kate’s favorite – Greek tapas on the very back of the boat – great place to watch the sunset!) and the Pizza Place.

  1. Tailored Dining Experience

Booking restaurants as soon as they open up is a top tip for those traveling with a big group. The Scarlet Lady is designed to offer personalized dining experiences, but prime hours can fill up quickly.

  1. Discover Unique Lounges

When it comes to relaxation and socializing, the Scarlet Lady doesn’t disappoint. One of our favorite places to lounge was “The Dock,” an aft lounge area with large daybeds and a tantalizing menu of Greek cuisine. Whether you’re looking for a cozy corner to unwind or a vibrant social scene, the ship’s lounges offer something for everyone.

Top Tips for Your Virgin Voyage

Now that you’re excited about setting sail on the Scarlet Lady, here are three insider tips to ensure you make the most of your experience:

  1. Book Restaurants Early: Especially if you’re traveling with a large group, secure your restaurant reservations as soon as they become available to guarantee your preferred dining times.
  2. Check Dining Hours: While the ship boasts a variety of dining options, be sure to check the hours of operation for your favorite spots to avoid any disappointments.
  3. Plan for Bimini Beach Club: If your itinerary includes a stop at the Bimini Beach Club, don’t wait too long to head there. Supplies can run out, and you wouldn’t want to miss out on the fun.

Bonus Tip: Bring a water bottle or insulated cup to stay hydrated throughout your journey, as bottled water is not readily available onboard.

As you prepare for your adventure on the Scarlet Lady, remember that this cruise is all about experiencing something different, something beyond the ordinary. Get ready for a voyage like no other, filled with exquisite dining, unique lounges, and unforgettable memories. It’s time to embark on a #ScarletLadyCruise and discover the magic of Virgin Voyages. 🚢🌊🎉
